Speed & Distance
· History📜 History & Discovery
Speed-distance-time has been studied since antiquity for navigation and astronomy. Islamic scholar Ibn Sahl studied light-speed concepts (984 CE). Galileo formalised kinematic equations. Newton's Principia (1687) gave velocity and acceleration their rigorous modern definitions.
⚡ 2026 Update
Modern CAT/Bank PO papers lean heavily on relative-speed train-crossing variants. The clean rule for two trains of length L₁, L₂ at speeds v₁, v₂ in opposite directions is t = (L₁ + L₂) / (v₁ + v₂) — same direction swaps to (v₁ − v₂). Memorise both forms and 80% of train problems collapse in seconds.
