Velocity
Latin velocitas — "swiftness, speed"
Velocity derives from Latin velox meaning "swift." The mathematical formulation of speed as distance÷time was first systematically studied by Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) through inclined-plane experiments, overturning Aristotle's false belief that heavier objects fall faster.
