Think of it as work rates — like CPU cores working in parallel! ⚡
If person A finishes in a days, their daily rate = 1/a. Person B's rate = 1/b. Together they finish in ab/(a+b) days.
Real-world use: Software teams estimate "story points per sprint." 5 devs, 2-week sprint, 40 points capacity. Same formula! Used in Agile planning, construction deadlines, factory throughput — everywhere timing matters.
Exam power move: Use the LCM method. Set total work = LCM(a, b). Calculate each person's daily output (efficiency), then add efficiencies. Much faster than fractions!
Watch out: If A and B work on alternate days, calculate day-by-day, not combined rate.
