A quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0 (a ≠ 0) has at most two real roots, found by the quadratic formula: x = (−b ± √(b²−4ac)) / 2a.

The discriminant D = b² − 4ac tells you how many: D > 0 → 2 real, D = 0 → 1 (repeated), D < 0 → none (2 complex).

Vieta's formulas: if α, β are roots, then α+β = −b/a, αβ = c/a.

Used in projectile motion (h = ut − ½gt²) — solve for time when height = 0.
